STORAGE AND HANDLING

Ensure that SPC flooring is stored on a flat surface to prevent distortion. Avoid placing it upright, near heat sources, or in areas with drastic temperature changes.

It is recommended to acclimate your new SPC flooring by allowing it to sit at room temperature (13° – 30°C or 55° – 85°F) for 48 hours before installation. Maintain this temperature until the installation is complete.

For Three Season Room installations, the maximum size can be 12.2m X 12.2m (40′ x 40′), with a minimum 12.7mm (1/2″) expansion on all perimeter walls or vertical objects before installation.

Ensure subfloors are clean, flat, and dry during SPC flooring installation. The quality, preparation, and surface conditions must be correct for a successful installation or correction.

WARNING! DO NOT MECHANICALLY CHIP OR PULVERIZE EXISTING RESILIENT FLOORING, BACKING, LINING FELT, ASPHALTIC “CUTBACK” ADHESIVES, OR OTHER ADHESIVES.

Previously installed resilient floor covering products and their adhesives may contain asbestos or crystalline silica. The products in this carton do not contain asbestos or crystalline silica. Avoid creating dust, as inhalation can be hazardous to health.

Presume the material contains asbestos unless confirmed otherwise. Regulations may require testing for asbestos content and may govern removal and disposal.

Refer to the current edition of the Resilient Floor Covering Institute (RFCI) publication “Recommended Work Practices for Removal of Resilient Floor Coverings” for detailed information.

WOOD SUBFLOOR TREATMENT BEFORE SPC FLOORING INSTALLATION:

  • Remove existing floor covering.
  • Replace water-damaged, swollen, or delaminated subflooring.
  • Ensure subfloor is level and nail down loose boards.
  • Repair wooden subfloor as needed or install 6.35mm APA underlayment grade panels or leveling compound if required.
  • Fasten underlayment panels following manufacturer’s recommendation.
  • Cover OSB or particleboard subfloors with a 0.15mm poly moisture vapor barrier or 6.35mm APA underlayment grade panels.
  • Ensure well-ventilated crawl space with proper ventilation.
  • Cover exposed crawl space soil with a 0.15mm vapor barrier.
  • Maintain wood subfloor moisture content below 12%.

Note: Do not install over wood attached to concrete. Remove wood and follow concrete subfloor instructions.

CONCRETE SUBFLOOR TREATMENT BEFORE SPC FLOORING INSTALLATION:

  • Ensure concrete subfloor is less than 80% relative humidity (ASTM F 2170) or less than 2.3kg/m² moisture vapor emission rate (ASTM F1869).
  • Use a 0.15mm poly moisture vapor barrier over concrete substrates.
  • Check subfloor for flatness and use Portland-based leveling compound as needed.
  • Embed radiant floor heating systems before SPC flooring installation.
  • Gradually increase radiant heat system temperature after installation, ensuring it does not exceed 30°C (85°F).
  • Ensure subfloor is dry and clean. Remove debris, sweep, vacuum, and repair surface imperfections and cracks. Remove existing base trim and install new moldings after installing SPC flooring.

SPC FLOORING INSTALLATION TOOLS:

  • Use utility knife, tape measure, safety glasses, spacers, tapping block, circular saw, gloves, and pencil. Additionally, have a pull bar and carpenter’s square available.
  • Using accessories other than recommended may void the warranty.
  • Inspect planks before and during installation. Remove any unacceptable planks.

HOW TO INSTALL SPC FLOORING – GENERAL:

  • Mix planks from different cartons during installation.
  • Install panels parallel to the longest wall and light source.
  • Stagger planks at least 30.48cm (12 inches).
  • Measure the room to ensure the last row of panels is at least 7.62cm (3 inches) wide.
  • Snap a chalk line for a straight installation.
  • SPC flooring is designed for floating installations in indoor areas, including enclosed three-season rooms protected from the elements, with temperatures between -17 and 40°C (0 and 140°F).

Do not install SPC products with a pad attached to a separate underlayment.

HOW TO INSTALL SPC FLOORING BY UNICLIC SYSTEM:

There are two methods for installing SUNTONE SPC flooring with a Uniclic locking system:

Method A:

  • Position the panel at a 20 to 30° angle to the installed panel.
  • Gently move the panel up and down while applying forward pressure.
  • The panels will automatically click into place.

Method B:

  • Join panels without lifting them, using the Uniclic tapping block.
  • Gradually tap panels together to avoid damage.

FLOORING MATERIAL INSTALLATION:

  • Install underlayment, and optionally, a moisture-proof 150μ screen film.
  • Start with a full-length plank against the wall.
  • Cut off the tongue on the plank’s long and short sides.
  • Leave a 6.35mm (1/4 inch) [15.88mm (5/8 inch) for areas above 30°C (85°F)] expansion space.
  • Follow diagrams for Uniclic installation.

FINISHING

BASE MOLDING:

  • Install base molding to the wall, not the floor.
  • Seal expansion spaces with silicone where moldings or bases cannot be installed.

UNDER DOORFRAMES:

  • Undercut door jamb when flooring meets a threshold.
  • Secure plank on the long side of the door jamb using an installation tool pull bar.

PIPES

  • Ensure pipes fall in line with the short side of two planks.
  • Drill holes for single or double pipes, seal cut edges, and ensure no sealer comes between cut-out piece and subfloor.
  • Please refer to the diagrams for detailed instructions during installation.
